NAPS APPLAUD FG ON REOPENING OF SCHOOLS, DEMAND FOR TUITION FEE WAIVER FOR AN ACADEMIC SESSION AS A FORM OF PALLIATIVE TO CUSHION THE EFFECT OF COVID-19.

Gentlemen of the press.

The leadership of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) applaud the FG on her most recent decision to return students back to class.

It is on record that the dreaded Covid left our schools under lock and keys for over six (6) months, Covid invaded at a time nobody envisaged.

The leaderships of NAPS, NAUS and NANCES being the umbrella bodies for Polytechnics, Universities and Colleges Students respectively embarked on a Nation-wide protest sometime in August after series of attempt to make the FG see reasons to reopen our institutions proved abortive.

Special thanks to some state Governments who listened to our agitations and took it into consideration, thanks for taking the lead.

It is most pertinent we remind Governments at all level that virtually all agencies, organs and stakeholders were given palliative to cushion the effect of Covid without recourse for students, however, we feel it is imbalance to place some set of Nigerians above another, we like to remind you that even our lecturers were paid their salaries without going to class, leaving our poor Parents unattended to, Our Parents have spent their Capitals to feed us in the face of the dreaded virus and yet nobody is representing or defending their interests.

We welcome and accept the reopening of our institutions in good fate starting from 12th October 2020, we hereby appeal to Government at all level to consider Tuition fee waiver for Students at all level just for one academic session, let this serve as a form of palliative to as well cushion the effect of Covid on our poor Parents and some students who fend for themselves, it won't be proper for Parents and Students to suffer further hardship from Managements of institutions /schools resulting from taxes and dues.

In thesame vein, we urge all management heads to strictly adhere to the FG containment directives on campuses in order to avoid the spread of Covid on campus. Our leadership shall appoint State and National task force delegation who will constantly be on a check to ensure that all management heads comply with the containment measures.

We shall deeply appreciate if our appeal is considered.

Finally, we congratulate and welcome all students (Returning and Newly admitted) back on campus, we charge you all to be safety conscious, always go about with protective equipments such as Nose Mask, Pocket size alcohol based hand sanitizer and as well maintain social distancing as much as possible, don't hesitate to call our attention in case of any threat whatsoever on campus, always remember to be good ambassadors, remain resolute and law abiding as we patiently await the swift approval of Government with respect to our appeal.

Aluta Continua, Victoria Acerta.

Signed,

Activist Sunday A. Asuku GCNPS,

National President (NAPS)
