Political stakeholders, community leaders, youth representatives, women groups, and party faithful from across Kwara North converged at Abule Hall, Shao, on Saturday for a press conference organized by the Kwara North Progressive Council (KNPC) to advocate equitable zoning and balanced political representation across the senatorial district.

The event, themed "A New Era of Equity: Kwara North Appreciates APC Leadership and Respects Its Long-Standing Zoning Arrangement," attracted prominent stakeholders who emphasized the importance of justice, fairness, and inclusiveness in the allocation of elective offices within Kwara North and Kwara State.

Addressing journalists and invited guests, the Spokesperson of KNPC, Com. Jegede AbdulAzeez Adebayo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his commitment to democratic values and inclusiveness within the political system. The group also expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for what it described as a historic recognition of Kwara North in the governorship zoning arrangement.

According to the council, the decision to zone the governorship to Kwara North represents a major step toward correcting years of political imbalance and ensuring that all regions of the state enjoy a sense of belonging.

The group further applauded the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, for his efforts in strengthening party unity and democratic participation.

Speaking on the issue of senatorial representation, KNPC noted that whole Patigi, Baruten, Edu, and Kaiama Local Government Areas have all produced Senators since 1999, Moro Local Government remains the only local government in Kwara North that has never occupied the position.

The council explained that in the spirit of unity and understanding, Moro stakeholders have agreed to support Patigi Local Government in completing what they described as an equitable cycle before the Senate seat eventually rotates to Moro.

On the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, the group argued that historical records show that Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas have produced members of the House of Representatives since 1999, while Moro Local Government has never occupied the seat.

The council therefore appealed to political stakeholders and party leaders to support the zoning of the next House of Representatives ticket to Moro Local Government Area in the interest of justice, fairness, and balanced representation.

KNPC maintained that its advocacy is not intended to create division but rather to strengthen unity and political stability within Kwara North through equitable participation in governance.

The gathering also reviewed the zoning arrangements within the Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency and commended stakeholders in the area for sustaining a relatively balanced power-sharing structure over the years.

In its closing remarks, the council called on APC leaders, traditional institutions, youth groups, women organizations, and other stakeholders to uphold the principles of fairness, justice, and inclusiveness in future political engagements.

The event ended with a renewed commitment by participants to work collectively for the progress of Kwara North and the advancement of democratic values across Kwara State.

The council reiterated its motto: "Unity, Progress, Equity, Inclusiveness and Development," while expressing optimism that a fair zoning arrangement would further strengthen peace, stability, and development within the region.
