APC PRIMARIES: AKPABIO DENIES PROMISE OF SENATORIAL TICKETS TO LAWMAKERS

CLARIFICATION ON APC PRIMARIES: AKPABIO DENIES PROMISE OF SENATORIAL TICKETS TO LAWMAKERS

By Poet of Afrique Reporter

The office of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed reports circulating in some sections of the media alleging that he promised to secure senatorial tickets for lawmakers who lost in their party primaries.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that he neither made nor authorized any such promise.

According to the statement, Senator Akpabio merely informed his colleagues that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is actively working to address concerns arising from the primaries and that the final list of candidates will be released in accordance with the party’s established rules and procedures.

The Senate President reaffirmed his commitment to party discipline, emphasizing that he would not interfere with the internal processes of the APC.

The statement also addressed discussions regarding a possible Senate investigation into the military over recent security incidents across the country. It noted that while legislative oversight remains a constitutional responsibility of the National Assembly, Senator Akpabio believes this is not the appropriate time for a public inquiry.

According to the statement, public hearings on sensitive security matters could negatively affect the morale of troops currently engaged in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security threats. Consequently, the Senate President favors closed-door engagements with security agencies as a more constructive approach.

The statement concluded by urging media organizations and journalists to verify information and seek official clarification before publication in order to avoid the spread of misinformation.
