*Governor AbdulRazaq: A Responsive and responsible leader,  worth emulating by other Govs.——Comrade Oba O.A(Sagacity)*

*~My true experience with Governor 2019 on KwaraPoly matters as SUGPresident convinces till date.*

Recent SUBEB  victory, victories in insurgency are as result of Gov.’s huge investments in education and security.

Leadership is not about political slogan; it is about empathy, responsiveness, and the courage to take decisions that truly impact lives of its citizens. Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq(CON), the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Chairman Nigeria Governors’ forum and Sardaona Ngeri of Ilorin Emirate, has exemplified  quality of responsiveness and concern for others from his first days in office as Governor of Kwara State. My direct personal  experience with him in 2019 remains a testimony that, he is not just a Governor but a leader with a listening heart and ears.

No sooner had Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emerged as Governor of Kwara State than he reached out to student groups which I was first called as the then Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Kwara State Polytechnic 2018/2019 academic session. At that time, tension was brewing between the students’ leadership and the school management over issues affecting students’ welfare. The call came through the then Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, now Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency and Akeweje, Chief honourable Fafoluyi Olayinka Michael, popularly known as Solace in October 2019, during the period the institution was about to have a new Rector appointed — who Double Doctor Abdul Muhammad Jimoh later became the Rector succeeding the then A.g Rector, Engr. Oyebode.

I was invited for an interactive meeting with His Excellency, Governor AbdulRazaq asking what was happening in KwaraPoly which was about leading to  protest after many consultations and consolidations. During our conversation Governor AbdulRazaq, I presented the key demands and challenges faced by the students of Kwara State Polytechnic before Governor, which had long been neglected by previous polytechnic management and then former state government. Among were:

1. Revival of Students’ Union dues after years of neglect

2. Request to revive  hostels back on campus which students used to secure outrageous hostels, apartments off campus and highly inconvenient for them  years back as at 2019

3. Operation of Tricycles within Campus: Tricycles abandoned for years.

4. Request for appointment and announcement of a Substantive Rector since the necessary processes had been concluded.

5. Request for monthly subvention for Kwara State Polytechnic from the government

6. Request for reinstatement of some suspended/rusticated student Leaders not expelled

I emphasized on the appointment of substantive Rector which if done and he’s approached, many of the tendered complaints will be rectified with State government intervention.

I added that, for years before our administration, the school management under the immediate past rector withheld the students’ union dues, claiming irregularities among past student leaders. This left the student union financially crippled. Despite several consultations and peaceful engagements with the polytechnic management and even consultations with some critical government officials like Kwara State House of Assembly, the then tertiary commissioner, among others, yet,  our efforts were futile.

Following the tradition of Aluta, we explored the two of the three C’s Consultation, Consolidation, We had reached the stage of the third “C”  when, perhaps due to intelligent reports to government house, the Governor himself intervened. During our meeting with him, *I explained that our agitation was not for personal gain as our administration tenure lapses in weeks time as at then, but for the future of students governance to come after our administration. His Excellency listened patiently and promised to address the utmost matter. True to his words, some days after the meeting, His Excellency promptly acted, and Engr. Double Dr. Abdul Muhammad Jimoh(FNSE, FNIMechE ) was appointed as the substantive Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic early November 2019.  Dr.Abdul, a man who has  since proven to be a lover of students, staff, and one of the best Rector in the history of Nigeria. Rector that has since managing the polytechnic in fairness, honesty, prudence and commitment. I approached the Rector for same matters presented to Governor and 90% of the agitations  were addressed  resolved with support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Kudos to the only ever rector we know in the history of KwaraPoly with double (PhD) and several digital experience which are out in use making Kwara State polytechnic among the best in the country.*

*The second administration after us benefited from SUG dues disbursement in millions. Existing hostels  were renovated and refurbished, new ones were built, over 20yrs abandoned Rear Admiral Lawal hall was completed. Tricycles too were  back on campus, union due too was activated, among other benefits on. Later we held another productive meeting with Governor as Senator representing KwaraPoly at NANS level led by leader Olosasa, the then NANS JCC Chairman. Where I appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq*

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq demonstrated exceptional leadership by attending to every single request we presented. He acted not as a politician seeking applause, but as a true servant of the people whose decisions are guided by fairness and empathy.

His approach to governance reflects a deep understanding that leadership is not about power, but about responsibility. Many of the positive developments seen today in Kwara State Polytechnic and indeed across the education sector in Kwara are fruits of that listening leadership. The recent SUBEB victory under the supervision of Prof. AbdulRaheem Adaramaja among several other previous victories are worth congratulating and it’s as a result of huge investments in quality of education. Also, huge investments in security conquers banditry and insurgents.

I can boldly say that my experiences with Governor AbdulRazaq in 2019 remains one of the defining moments of my leadership journey. He earned our respect, not by words, but by actions. *My political engagements before 2019 and after are dedicated to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for his truthfulness, honesty, integrity, transformation and loyalty to the entire Kwarans and Nigerians at large as NGF Chairman*

Under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON., Kwara has witnessed real definition of governance, democracy and concern for others: Heavy infrastructures across sectors especially on education and health services with facilities and human Resources , better roads networks and developmental projects across Senetorial districts, advanced  attention to quality education, Health,  employments and empowerment opportunities for young people and women, grants everywhere, cash supports for businesses to strive through KWASSIP, other agencies, greater inclusion of women in leadership, and transparent management of public funds, yearly increment of student bursary from #5,000 to 20,000, students support grants, students palliative. The Governor AbdulRazaq led administration has restored public trust and given the people of Kwara a sense of belonging and pride once again.

The era when then political leaders and their appointees played deceitful politics to people with empty promises and propaganda are over. Kwarans now value performance over noise, they value sincerity over showmanship, and also prefer results over rhetoric.
