The Kwara State Government has delivered a major boost to educational infrastructure with the handover of newly constructed and renovated facilities at Baboko Community Secondary School, Ilorin.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, formally handed over the projects on Monday, describing the intervention as a reflection of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's commitment to improving the quality of education and advancing human capital development across the state.
The projects include the renovation of four classroom blocks, the remodeling of a five-classroom block, the upgrade of four laboratory blocks equipped with modern facilities, offices and stores, as well as renovated toilet facilities aimed at improving the learning environment and students' welfare.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Olohungbebe urged the school management, teachers, students, and members of the host community to protect and maintain the facilities to ensure their long-term sustainability.
According to him, government investments in education can only achieve lasting impact when stakeholders take collective responsibility for preserving public assets.
"The government has fulfilled its responsibility by providing these facilities. It is now our collective duty to preserve them and ensure future generations benefit from this investment," he stated.
The commissioner also commended Governor AbdulRazaq for prioritizing educational development and praised teachers across the state for their dedication and commitment to improving learning outcomes.
President of the Baboko Ward Development Association, Mallam Abdullahi Toyin, assured the government that the community would take ownership of the facilities and work closely with the school to safeguard the investment.
Similarly, community leader and former Permanent Secretary, Mallam Nuhu Mogaji, described the intervention as a significant milestone for the school, expressing optimism that the improved infrastructure would restore public confidence and create a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Representing the school's Alumni Association, Dr. Oniye Ridwanullahi said the development had renewed hope among former students and pledged the association's support in complementing government efforts toward the institution's growth.
The principals of the Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, Alhaja Omolola Afusat Lawal and Mallam Kure Issa Iyanda, described the project as timely and impactful, noting that the improved classrooms and laboratory facilities would significantly enhance academic activities.
Students also expressed appreciation for the upgraded infrastructure. Speaking on behalf of their colleagues, Master Ayantola Benjamin, Miss Karatu Aminat, and Miss Surajudeen Alimat said the new facilities would motivate students to study harder and achieve greater academic success.
The intervention forms part of the Kwara State Government's broader efforts to strengthen public education infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment for students across the state.
