ILORIN, KWARA STATE — August 19, 2026: Kwara State has emerged as the best-performing state in Northern Nigeria in the recently concluded Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), recording an impressive 93.8 per cent pass rate.
The recognition was conveyed in a congratulatory letter addressed to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and signed by the Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, Dr. (Mrs.) Ronke Soyombo.
According to the council, 678 candidates registered for the examination, while 616 candidates sat for the test. Of those who participated, 578 candidates passed, representing a success rate of 93.8 per cent.
TRCN said the impressive performance reflected the high calibre of teachers and educators being nurtured under the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration.
Reacting to the recognition, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, described the achievement as an independent validation of the state government's sustained investment in education and teacher quality.
Olohungbebe attributed the performance to the administration's standardised and merit-based teacher recruitment process, which, he said, ensures that only qualified and competent professionals are engaged to teach in public schools.
The Commissioner also congratulated the successful teachers and commended them for their outstanding performance and commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
He noted that the government's continued investment in teacher development, alongside broader education reforms, had strengthened classroom instruction and contributed to improved learning outcomes.
Olohungbebe further welcomed TRCN's readiness to partner with the state government in addressing identified gaps in mathematics through targeted professional development programmes for teachers.
He reaffirmed the AbdulRazaq administration's commitment to sustaining policies and programmes that promote excellence, professionalism and adherence to global best practices in the education sector.
The latest recognition adds to the administration's efforts to strengthen the quality of public education in Kwara State through teacher recruitment, continuous professional development and institutional reforms.
