ABUJA, NIGERIA — August 19, 2026: The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released its timetable and schedule of activities for primary elections ahead of the 2026 legislative elections in five states.

The affected states are Delta, Kogi, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano, with the timetable covering four State House of Assembly constituencies recently restored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as well as constituencies where legislative bye-elections are scheduled to take place. 

The development follows INEC's restoration of four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states following court judgments directing their restoration.

The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State. INEC has fixed August 21–25, 2026 for political parties to conduct their primaries for the restored constituencies. 

The same period will also cover APC primaries for constituencies where bye-elections are required following recent vacancies. These include Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State. 

INEC has scheduled the affected legislative bye-elections for Saturday, September 19, 2026.

The APC timetable is expected to guide aspirants, delegates and party officials as the party begins the process of selecting its candidates for the forthcoming legislative contests.

The party's exercise comes as political activities intensify across the affected states, with aspirants expected to mobilise delegates and stakeholders ahead of the primaries.

INEC has also directed political parties to submit notices of their respective primaries to the Commission before their scheduled dates.

The electoral commission said the other applicable timelines and activities in its revised electoral timetable would remain in force for the restored constituencies.

The development marks another stage in preparations for the September legislative contests and is expected to intensify political activity within the APC in the affected states.
