FG Retains 16 Years as Minimum Age for Tertiary Institution Admission

The has announced the retention of 16 years as the minimum age requirement for admission into tertiary institutions across the country.

The Minister of Education, , made the announcement on Monday during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions held in .

According to the minister, the decision followed extensive consultations and policy reviews involving major stakeholders in the education sector.

Alausa explained that the policy aims to maintain a balance between academic readiness and inclusivity within Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

“Following extensive consultations and policy reviews, the government has maintained sixteen (16) years as the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions,” the minister stated.

The policy meeting brought together education administrators, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to deliberate on admission processes and standards for higher institutions in the country.

APC Announces Screening Schedule for National Assembly Aspirants Ahead of Primaries

In a press statement issued on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Abuja, the ruling party disclosed that the screening exercise for National Assembly aspirants will hold between Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2026.
