Ekiti Bloc Seeks Equitable Representation, Urges APC to Zone 2027 Reps Ticket
Youth Stakeholders Advocate Inclusivity, Justice and Balanced Political Participation
Stakeholders under the aegis of the Igbomina/Ekiti Youth Stakeholders and the Oke-Ero Youth Assembly have called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning the 2027 House of Representatives ticket for the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency to the Ekiti Bloc.
The position was contained in a joint communiqué issued after an extensive consultative meeting involving traditional rulers, community leaders, professionals, women groups, youth organisations, and other critical stakeholders from across the federal constituency.
According to the stakeholders, the appeal is driven by the need to promote fairness, inclusiveness, balanced representation, and democratic participation within the party and the constituency.
The groups emphasized that their position should not be interpreted as opposition to any local government area or political bloc but rather as a sincere call for equitable political opportunities among the constituent parts of the federal constituency.
They noted that the Ekiti Bloc, comprising Ekiti and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas, has remained a consistent supporter of the progressive movement and the APC over the years, contributing significantly to the party's electoral successes.
Despite its loyalty and contributions, the stakeholders argued that the bloc has continued to experience limited representation in key elective positions, particularly at the National Assembly level.
According to the communiqué, Oke-Ero Local Government has never produced a member of the House of Representatives since its creation, a situation the stakeholders described as a historical imbalance requiring thoughtful consideration.
The groups maintained that political inclusion remains essential to strengthening democratic institutions, fostering unity, and sustaining confidence among party members and supporters.
They therefore appealed to APC leaders at the national, state, and constituency levels to ensure that the 2027 House of Representatives ticket is zoned to the Ekiti Bloc as a demonstration of fairness, inclusiveness, and internal democracy.
The stakeholders further stressed that such a decision would enhance party cohesion, encourage broader participation among young people, and strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While reaffirming their commitment to the APC, the groups commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda. They also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his developmental strides and efforts in advancing the progressive ideals of the party in Kwara State.
The communiqué also expressed concern over reports surrounding the emergence of candidates within the constituency, urging party leaders to uphold democratic principles and respect outcomes derived from established party processes.
The stakeholders concluded by reiterating their commitment to peace, constructive engagement, and party unity, expressing confidence that fairness and inclusiveness would further strengthen the APC's electoral fortunes across the federal constituency.
