The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the construction of the Oko-Olowo Junction Flyover in Kwara State.

The N21 billion project is part of the 27 road infrastructure projects recently approved across 15 states under the Federal Government’s drive to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance mobility across the country.

In a statement issued through his Media Assistant, Nasif Sholagberu, Senator Mustapha described the approval as a welcome development that reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs and improving the welfare of citizens.

He noted that the flyover would help reduce traffic congestion, improve the flow of vehicles, enhance safety for road users, and support commercial activities along the busy route.

The lawmaker recalled that he raised the issue on the floor of the Senate on November 26, 2024, through a motion seeking urgent government intervention at the Oko-Olowo Junction due to recurring accidents and increasing traffic challenges in the area.

According to him, he also held discussions with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, to further press for the project's consideration and approval.

Senator Mustapha expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development and responding to the needs of the people of Kwara State.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Works in facilitating the approval process and expressed confidence that the project would have a positive impact on transportation, commerce, and public safety upon completion.

The Oko-Olowo Junction serves as a major entry point into Ilorin and has, over the years, been a source of concern due to heavy traffic and frequent road accidents. Stakeholders believe the construction of the flyover will significantly improve traffic management and ease movement within the area.

Mustapha reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing initiatives and projects that will contribute to the growth and development of Kwara State and improve the quality of life for its residents.
