NANC Condemns Remand of Former FUOYE SUG President, Demands Immediate Release

The National Association of Nigerian Comrades (NANC) has strongly condemned the remand of the immediate past Students' Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Comrade Adio, describing the action as a violation of due process and an infringement on his fundamental rights.

In a statement issued by its National President, Comrade Johnclaude Peter, JP, the association expressed concern over reports that Comrade Adio, who allegedly approached a Magistrate Court in Ekiti State as a complainant, was subsequently remanded following actions said to have involved the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the presiding magistrate.

According to NANC, the development represents a "judicial rascality" and a "travesty of justice," insisting that no student leader should be criminalised for seeking justice through lawful means.

The association called for the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Adio and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the conduct of the officials involved in the case.

NANC further directed its South-West Zonal leadership and Ekiti State Chapter to mobilise and participate in peaceful activities aimed at demanding justice for the former student union leader.

Expressing solidarity with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the association endorsed the position of the NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, on the matter.

Reaffirming its commitment to defending the rights of students and comrades across the country, NANC stated that it would continue to advocate for justice, the rule of law, and the protection of democratic rights.

The statement was signed by the National President of NANC, Comrade Johnclaude Peter, JP, and made available to journalists through the association's Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Sanni Yusuf Olatunji.
