ALAKA URGES GOVERNOR ABDULRAZAQ TO PICK WOMAN AS DEPUTY GOVERNOR IN 2027

Kwara women have never occupied deputy governor’s office, says Special Adviser on Party Affairs

IDOFIAN, KWARA STATE — August 11, 2026: The Special Adviser on Party Affairs to the Kwara State Governor, Hon. Moshood Alaka, has appealed to the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to consider a woman for the position of Deputy Governor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Alaka made the call while addressing participants at the Kwara South Women SYD Unique Women Grassroots Mobilization, held at the Idofian Town Hall, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Special Adviser commended the AbdulRazaq administration for providing women with opportunities to serve in government through appointments into the State Executive Council and other strategic positions.

He said the development had demonstrated that women possess the capacity and competence to contribute meaningfully to governance, policy formulation and decision-making beyond their traditional role as political mobilisers during elections.

According to him, women constitute a significant proportion of the population and play critical roles in families, communities, the economy and the political system, yet they continue to face barriers to occupying political leadership positions.

“Women are often mobilisers during elections. They attend rallies, organise meetings, campaign from house to house and vote in large numbers. But when it is time to share political responsibilities, make decisions and occupy elective positions, their representation often becomes limited,” Alaka said.

He described greater inclusion of women in governance as an investment in effective administration and development rather than a favour to women.

Alaka further noted that, throughout the history of Kwara State, no woman had occupied the office of Deputy Governor, describing the situation as an opportunity for the present administration to make history.

“In the history of our dear State of Harmony, Kwara State, women have never had the opportunity to become the Deputy Governor. We are using this medium to appeal to His Excellency, the women-loving Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to give women this opportunity this time and make a woman the Deputy Governor of Kwara State in the 2027 forthcoming election,” he said.

The Special Adviser maintained that choosing a woman as Deputy Governor would further strengthen Governor AbdulRazaq's record on women's political participation and create additional opportunities for women to occupy strategic leadership positions across the state.

He urged women in Kwara to remain united, committed and actively involved in political processes, stressing that their participation should extend beyond election mobilisation to leadership, policy formulation and governance.

Alaka also prayed for wisdom, strength and sincerity for women involved in leadership and politics, expressing confidence that their contributions would promote justice, development, unity and progress across Kwara State.

The event brought together women leaders, grassroots mobilisers and political stakeholders from Kwara South, with discussions centred on strengthening women's participation and representation in politics and governance.

He needs to choose the woman, the already exposed plan. Oga there is no secret in that again, the daughter of current APC chairman, Sunday fagbemi.
