NAPS REJECT HIKE IN PRICE.

National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS)

                   Seal Of The President.

                           03/09/2020.

Press Statement

For Immediate Release.

NAPS REJECT HIKE IN PRICES OF COMMODITIES, A CALL FOR MASS ACTION.

Fellow Nigerians.

We bring you combatant greetings from the leadership of the second largest students movement in Africa (NAPS), may the labor of our heroes past never be in vain.

Following the recent hardship in the country courtesy of the Pandemic and the recent decisions of the FG with respect to hike in price of commodities especially in a time when citizens are still struggling with the effects of Covid not minding the negligence of the Government to cushion the effect, it is Germaine we make the FG understand that the recent hike in Value Added Tax (VAT), Premium Motor Spirit (PMS otherwise known as PETROL), Stamp Duty on bank transactions, DSTV, GOTV, Electricity tariff and so on is totally NOT ACCEPTABLE and will be vehemently RESISTED by the teeming Nigeria students.

Not minding the empty promises you made to Nigeria students to make the country a better place for all to stay, we are disappointed by the recent hardship, wickedness and other inhumane act melted on the teeming masses.

It is equally pertinent we state clear as a matter of fact that Nigerians voted President Muhammadu Buhari on the grounds of cushioning the effects of total recession assumed to have been caused by the former administrations, we are rather in a total dismay knowing that the destiny and future of the country under your watch is now in doubt.

Mr President sir, it is still very fresh in our memories that you and your allies staged alot of protest under the former administration when the country was said to be at the verge of collapsing, you protested against same hike in fuel pump price and other factors capable of crumbling our economy and country at large, Ojota Freedom Park and FCT Secretariat match among others are still very fresh in our memories, Nigerians followed you not because they are gullible and stupid but because they needed a safe, reliable, trusted and sure country.

Mr President sir, you were a strong factor among the voices that clamoured for the CHANGE MANTRA in the face of dwindling economy, Insecurity (Insurgence, Banditry, Abduction, Robbery, etc) Bad governance, etc, it is therefore sad to know that the country suffers even more under your watch as the President.

Mr President sir, it is good we remind you that as wicked, rude, evil and unreasonable we claimed the former administration was, they still allow Nigerians to lend their dissenting voices to alarming issues and that was why your likes could stage series of protest, it is sad to know that the voices of the masses have been forcefully silenced with numerous threats under your watch, your administration denied Nigerians thesame freedom of speech you enjoyed, you placed a ban on protest so that Nigerians won't have the voice and force against bad governance, Mr President we are disappointed!

Our Resolve.

We have chosen to stand for something rather than falling for everything, we have come to realize that in an unjust society Silence is a crime.

In the lieu of the above, we advise the FG to reverse these anti-masses decisions or face the real chemical reaction of Nigeria Youths and Students, NAPS will not hesitate to join the teeming masses to request for reversal.

We also demand the immediate resignation of the Minister of Petroleum and the MD NNPC within the slated time frame or we shall permanently relocate our secretariat to the ministry by staging the mother of all protest.

Multi choice company should reverse the hike in subscription and base their charges on consumption by customers (End monthly or yearly subscription) we have cases of power outage, they still charge monthly without recourse for unstable power supply. We shall not hesitate to picket on them heavily if the reversal is not reached soon.

FREEDOM IS NEVER GIVEN VOLUNTARILY BY OPPRESSORS, IT MUST BE DEMANDED AND FORCEFULLY TAKEN BY THE OPPRESSED.
