The Executive Chairman of Ilorin East Local Government, Amb. Mallam Garba Olayinka Lukman Agbelere, has dismissed reports alleging that bandits attacked Government Model Girls Secondary School, Depot, Oke-Oyi, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a bid to verify the situation and reassure residents, Agbelere visited the school on Thursday alongside security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Forest Guards, and local vigilante groups.
Following the inspection, the chairman stated that there was no security breach at the school and that students, teachers, and staff remained safe. He warned that the spread of unverified information could create unnecessary panic among parents, guardians, and members of the public.
As part of efforts to calm concerns within the community, Agbelere, accompanied by security operatives, also paid a courtesy visit to the Baale of Oke-Oyi, Alhaji Salihu Alao Odedeyi. During the visit, he reaffirmed the commitment of the local government to the protection of lives and property and assured the traditional ruler of the administration’s determination to sustain peace and security in the area.
The chairman disclosed that the local government, working closely with the Kwara State Government and security agencies, had put adequate measures in place to safeguard residents and public institutions. He added that security chiefs had equally confirmed that the school and its surrounding areas were safe and secure.
Agbelere therefore urged residents to disregard the rumours and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and anxiety within the community. He stressed the importance of relying on credible sources for information relating to security matters.
The chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to the safety and well-being of residents of Ilorin East Local Government, assuring that collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders would continue to ensure lasting peace and protection of lives and property across the council area.
