Ilorin and the Rise of Local Gins: A Concern to Us All

Ilorin and the Rise of Local Gins: A Concern to Us All By: Ibraheem Olasunkanmi Qoseem Back in the days, one of the things that made Ilorin a coveted and unrivalled city, unique for its holiness, was its strictness and intolerance for filth and its associates. In recent time, we have allowed our quest for civilization to cart away our long-cherished legacy, leaving us with unhealthy circumstances for our wellbeing and sanctity. For many of us, when we travel out of the town or the state and see how cheaply local gin has become on the streets and how it is openly abused by both minors and adults, a sense of nostalgia often creeps in, and we silently pray for our ancestors who once maintained such sanity and discipline. Today, there is a twist in the narrative. What gradually started at the outskirts in different locations across the city, especially around garages, is now becoming unbecomingly visible in the popular areas of the Emirate. Sadly, many among us are becoming ambassadors of ...

Kwara North Marginalisation: Group calls for Equity, Justice and inclusiveness.

Kwara North Marginalisation: A Call for Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Governance by: Bint Abdulkareem The pursuit of justice, fairness, and inclusive governance remains the cornerstone of any thriving democratic society. In Kwara State, these principles must continue to guide our collective political decisions, ensuring that every region and community is given a genuine sense of belonging and equal opportunity to contribute to leadership and development. It is within this context that we respectfully draw attention to the concerns surrounding the political positioning of Kwara North. As a significant and integral part of the state, Kwara North has consistently demonstrated loyalty, commitment, and unwavering support for the unity and progress of Kwara State. The region has played its role in sustaining democratic stability and advancing the broader interests of the state. However, there is a growing need to address the issue of equitable representation. Over time, Kwara North has expe...

POWER SHIFT TO KWARA NORTH 2027: THE CASE FOR MORO (EDU/MORO/PATIGI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY)

POWER SHIFT TO KWARA NORTH 2027: THE CASE FOR MORO (EDU/MORO/PATIGI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY) The call for power shift to Kwara North in 2027 is not just politics—it is a matter of justice, equity, and fairness. Since the return of democracy in 1999, political power in Kwara State has been unevenly distributed. Kwara Central has dominated governance for decades, while Kwara South has had its opportunity.  However, Kwara North continues to demand its rightful place in the leadership structure. Within Kwara North itself, the same imbalance exists. In the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, the House of Representatives seat has rotated only between Edu and Patigi for nearly 28 years, leaving Moro Local Government completely excluded. This long-standing exclusion makes the demand for Moro’s inclusion not only reasonable—but necessary. Why Moro Must Be Considered in 2027 Equity and Justice: Moro is the only local government in the constituency that has never produced a House of Repr...
