Olubadan Inaugurates Committee to Promote Integration of Traditional, Orthodox Medicine
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has inaugurated a committee to facilitate the integration of traditional and orthodox medicine as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Wednesday at the committee room of the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Represented by the Director-General of the Olubadan Palace, Basiru Olanrewaju, the monarch said the initiative was designed to encourage collaboration between traditional and conventional medical practitioners for the overall benefit of the people.
According to the Olubadan, the integration of both healthcare systems would help harness their respective strengths and promote more effective healthcare delivery not only in Ibadanland but across the country.
"The objective is to ensure that traditional and orthodox medicine complement each other in the interest of the people and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector," the monarch stated.
Oba Ladoja also expressed confidence in the effectiveness of traditional medicine, noting that it has continued to play a significant role in healthcare and should be recognized as an important component of the nation's health system.
He urged members of the committee to approach the assignment with dedication and commitment, emphasizing the need to develop practical recommendations that would strengthen cooperation between practitioners of both medical systems.
The committee comprises representatives of key stakeholder organizations, including the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, the Olubadan Palace, and researchers specializing in traditional medicine.
Stakeholders at the event described the initiative as a significant step toward promoting research, standardization, and wider acceptance of traditional medicine within Nigeria's healthcare framework.
