PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers, Elevates 13 CPs to AIG Rank



The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks following their successful participation in the recently concluded written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission's Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

The promotions were among the key resolutions reached at the Commission's plenary meeting held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in Abuja.

13 Commissioners of Police Elevated to Assistant Inspectors-General

The Commission approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). The beneficiaries include:

  • Itam Nnaghe Obono – CP, Counter Terrorism Unit
  • Bassey Samuel Ewah – CP, Plateau State Command
  • Osagie John Agans-Irabor – CP, FCID Lagos
  • Monday Agbonika – CP, Edo State Command
  • Iyamah Daniel Adebor – CP, Bayelsa State Command
  • Isa Danladi Nda – CP, Abia State Command
  • Akaninyene Ezima – Director, NPF-NCCC
  • Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu – CP, Anambra State Command
  • Afegbua B. Rashid – CP, Cross River State Command
  • Edozie Hycenth Azuka – CP, AML/CFT, FCID
  • Haruna Alaba Yahaya – CP, Jigawa State Command
  • Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent – CP, Benue State Command
  • Betty Enekpen Otimenyin – CP, Welfare Department

17 Deputy Commissioners Promoted to Commissioners of Police

The PSC also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). The officers were drawn from various operational, investigative, and administrative units of the Nigeria Police Force.

Other Promotions

Additionally, 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), while 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

Among those promoted are officers serving in operational commands, investigative departments, special units, and zonal formations across the country.

162 ASPs Confirmed

The Commission further approved the confirmation of appointment of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

PSC Chairman Charges Officers on Professionalism

Speaking after the promotions, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

He advised the officers to remain committed to ethical policing standards, avoid involvement in civil disputes—particularly land-related matters—and always protect their reputation and credibility.

According to him, officers should conduct themselves in a manner that will earn public trust and respect throughout their careers and beyond retirement.

The latest promotion exercise is expected to strengthen leadership capacity within the Nigeria Police Force and enhance operational effectiveness across the country.
