The Nigerian Senate has announced a donation of ₦50 million to the families of five individuals who lost their lives during the rescue operation for abducted schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The donation was unveiled as part of efforts to support the bereaved families and honour the sacrifices made during the operation that led to the rescue of the kidnapped pupils and teachers.

Members of the Senate described the deceased as heroes who paid the ultimate price in the service of humanity and national security, noting that their courage and sacrifice would not be forgotten.

The lawmakers expressed condolences to the affected families and commended security agencies and other stakeholders involved in securing the release of the victims.

The Senate stated that the financial support is intended to provide relief to the families as they cope with the loss of their loved ones.

The abduction, which attracted national attention, occurred when armed attackers invaded schools in Oriire Local Government Area, taking dozens of pupils and teachers captive.

Following weeks of coordinated security operations and rescue efforts, the victims were eventually freed, bringing an end to a prolonged period of anxiety for their families and the wider community.

The Senate reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving security across the country and protecting schools from criminal attacks.

Lawmakers also called for sustained efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance community security structures, and prevent future incidents targeting educational institutions.

The donation underscores the National Assembly's recognition of the sacrifices made by individuals involved in safeguarding lives and restoring hope to affected communities.
