Ekiti, Oke-Ero Monarchs Demand Fairness Over APC Reps Ticket Allocation, Seek Party Intervention

Traditional rulers from Ekiti and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas of Kwara State have expressed opposition to the reported nomination of Hon. Olawuyi Raheem Tunji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Irepodun/Isin Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday at the Ekiti Local Government Traditional Council Secretariat in Osi, the monarchs described the development as inconsistent with the principles of fairness, equity, and the outcome of the party’s primary election.
The position of the royal fathers was presented by the Owalobo of Obbo-Ile, Oba Rufus Adebayo Olusegun, on behalf of the Joint Traditional Councils of Ekiti and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas.
According to the monarchs, political representation within the federal constituency has, since the return to democratic governance in 1999, remained largely within the Igbomina Bloc, comprising Irepodun and Isin Local Government Areas. They noted that while Irepodun and Isin have produced occupants of the House of Representatives seat over the years, the Ekiti Bloc—made up of Ekiti and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas—has yet to occupy the position.
The traditional rulers argued that equitable power sharing and political inclusion are essential for sustaining harmony and strengthening democratic participation across the constituency.
They further recalled what they described as a mutual understanding among stakeholders that the Kwara South Senatorial ticket would be retained within the Igbomina Bloc, while the House of Representatives ticket would be zoned to the Ekiti Bloc to address longstanding concerns about representation.
While commending the emergence of an Igbomina candidate for the senatorial ticket, the monarchs expressed concern over reports suggesting that the House of Representatives ticket had also been retained within Irepodun Local Government Area.
The royal fathers also maintained that available results from the APC primary election did not support the reported nomination and cautioned against actions that could undermine confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes.
Consequently, they appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and other party leaders to intervene and ensure a resolution that reflects fairness, justice, and the wishes of party members.
The monarchs stressed that granting the Ekiti Bloc the opportunity to produce the party’s House of Representatives candidate would promote political balance, inclusiveness, and unity within the constituency.
Reaffirming their commitment to peaceful coexistence, the traditional rulers emphasized that lasting peace and stability can only be achieved where justice and fairness prevail.
The communiqué was jointly endorsed by the Chairman of the Ekiti Local Government Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty Oba Saliu Abdulkareem Adasofegbe (Arowobeku I), the Olosi of Osi, and the Chairman of the Oke-Ero Local Government Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty Oba Samuel Niyi Dada Okinbaloye Aponbiepo II, the Aloffa of Iloffa, on behalf of the Joint Traditional Councils of Ekiti and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas.
