Ekiti Police Restrict Vehicular Movement Ahead of Governorship Election
The Ekiti State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction on vehicular movement ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process.
The Command disclosed the development on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, stating that the restriction will take effect from midnight on Friday and remain in force until 6:00 p.m. on election day.
According to the police, the directive is aimed at preventing security breaches, curbing electoral violence, and creating a conducive atmosphere for voters to exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
The Command clarified that only individuals on essential duties, including accredited election officials, security personnel, medical emergency responders, and other authorized service providers, would be exempted from the restriction.
Residents were urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security agencies deployed across the state to maintain law and order throughout the election period.
The police also warned political parties, candidates, and their supporters against any actions capable of disrupting the electoral process, stressing that anyone found violating electoral laws or engaging in activities that threaten public peace would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Ekiti State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the governorship election, while calling on all stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful and successful exercise.
