Ten Kwara APC Governorship Aspirants Seek Tinubu's Intervention Over Party's Future
A group of ten governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has jointly appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to intervene in what they described as a worsening crisis within the party in the state.
In a letter dated June 19, 2026, and addressed to the President, the aspirants congratulated him on the third anniversary of his administration and reaffirmed their loyalty to his leadership, pledging their support for his re-election bid in 2027.
The signatories, including Dr. Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi, Capt. Ahmad Mahmud, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, Dr. Azeez Salako Muideen Olaniyi, Amb. Yahaya Seriki Gambari, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, Hon. Omar Muhammed Bio, Barr. Dele Belgore (SAN), and Senator Yahaya Ibrahim Oloriegbe, expressed concerns over the state of the APC in Kwara.
According to the aspirants, the coalition that brought the APC to power through the historic "Otoge" movement in 2019 has gradually weakened due to what they described as the exclusion and marginalisation of key stakeholders who contributed to the party's success.
The group alleged that the party's support base has diminished over the years and warned that the APC's electoral prospects in Kwara State could be threatened if urgent steps are not taken to address internal grievances and restore unity among stakeholders.
Among their requests, the aspirants urged President Tinubu to review recent developments within the Kwara APC, including concerns surrounding the conduct of the party's governorship primary election. They also called for a reassessment of the capacities, loyalty, and acceptability of governorship aspirants with a view to fostering unity and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants pledged to support any consensus arrangement endorsed by the President and the party leadership, assuring that they would deploy their political structures and resources toward securing victory for APC candidates in future elections.
They further appealed for broader consultations regarding candidates for other elective positions, including the National Assembly and State Assembly seats, to ensure inclusiveness and accommodate various political interests within the party.
The letter concluded with a warning that failure to address the concerns raised could deepen divisions within the party and affect its performance in future elections, including the presidential poll.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Presidency, the APC national leadership, or the Kwara State Government regarding the letter.
